Restituto procede del verbo latino restituo, "colocar en el lugar anterior", "restituir", "reconducir", "restablecer". Su origen remoto es la raiz indoeuropea st(h)a-, "tenerse, mantenerse", de la que procede el verbo latino estar. San Restituto fue un obispo de Cartago en el siglo III y un mártir de Antioquía del siglo IV.
